I know we haven’t even talked about “Ubik” yet

… but I’ve decided to go ahead and start reading “The Pale King,” which has been sitting on my shelf since it was released.

Anyone who wants to talk about it at some point, let me know in comments.  If you’re game, when should we aim to have it read?

  1. Me too, but I won’t have time to start it for a few weeks.

    • No huge rush on my part. David Foster Wallace is nobody’s idea of quick reading, so I’m happy to go at a leisurely pace.

      • Somewhat related, I had this conversation with a friend recently:

Friend: “Have you read Grant’s memoirs?”

Me: “I keep meaning to get to them, but not yet.”

F: “I have a copy somewhere. I’ll find it for you.”

M: “No, I’ll download it from gutenberg.org onto my Kindle and read it in big type.”

        F: That’s it, I’m buying a Kindle.”

  2. Hmm. I’ll probably write about it, though I’m afraid to set a deadline.

    • I’d just as soon try to coordinate a discussion with you, instead of doing it piecemeal. And as I’ve indicated, I have no particular schedule in mind.
