Here’s a new ad by the National Citizens Coalition aimed at the Conservative governments spending:
Hat tip: Stephen Taylor (who works for the NCC and runs the aggregator Blogging Tories).

If you want to do a negative ad on your opponent, I’m not sure using an ad that is mostly visual tugs at a particular fan base is wise… especially if the character you are casting your opponent as is the coolest, smartest, sexiest, most capable and well liked guy in the show you’re referencing.
This isn’t a negative ad against an opponent, actually. The NCC is a rather conservative organization, and Stephen Taylor is a prominent conservative pundit (he ran for a Conservative nomination one year, runs a conservative blog aggregator, and is often a true partisan defender of the Conservatives).
This is an ad by conservatives, for conservatives, aimed at salvaging a conservative government. I think they’re ok with making Harper look cool as long as they can get their message out about his past policies. At the very least, I think this ad could garner them a little more attention, and that might be their main purpose.
I’m bemused that the only numbers they used were the CBC at 1.1 billion and then only runner up was “high flying beurocrats” at 50k. This strikes me as classic imported American fiscal conservatism. It aims pretty much only at the popular waste and fraud as well as a pet conservative bugaboo while remaining mum about where all the real money is.
