For the holiday

In celebration of the holiday we’re collectively observing, it seems only appropriate to mention objects of my gratitude.  (Forgive me if this seems trite or cloying.)  There are the usual things, of course.  I am immensely grateful for good health, for a tolerant and loving husband, and for a charming and boisterous son.  I am grateful for a good life in a free country, and for a good job that keeps me challenged and secure.  I am grateful for the good fortune to be happy.

And I am grateful for the wonderful privilege of being a part of this community.  I am thrilled and delighted still to occupy this space, with these people as fellows.  I am humbled by the company I keep here, and hope that what I contribute is worth appearing alongside what they write.  Finally, I am sincerely grateful for you who read and comment.  It is an honor that you would spend part of your day reading what I have to say, and offering your opinions in return.

Thank you.
