For the holiday

Sometimes I worry that I am among the sappier contributors here at the League.  But this week we celebrate the holiday where we are called upon to reflect on those things that make us thankful.  So it’s my blog, and I’ll be a sap if I want to.

This has been a year full of reasons to be grateful.

We have a beautiful new daughter to join her proud new big brother.  We are so happy to have her, and not just because occasionally she sleeps five hours at a stretch overnight.

The people of our state have gone to the polls and granted us marriage equality.  The wonder of that still hasn’t worn off, and I’m still finding myself struck by the random thought “Good heavens!  We can get married!  We live in one of those states now.”  I can’t begin to express how thankful I am for that.

And I never miss an opportunity to express my gratitude for being part of this community.  I simply love it here, and having my best friend as co-blogger makes it even more fantastic.  I consider so many people around the League friends, commenters and contributors alike.  It was a delight to get to know so many in person at the first-ever Leaguefest, and I hope to have the privilege of meeting many more in the future.

Thank you to the site’s creators for giving me this space.  Thank you for reading and commenting, for challenging my viewpoints and making me examine my own arguments.  Thank you for all the good wishes and jokes and awesome comment threads.

Thank you for creating the community here.  It is such a pleasure to be part of it.

  1. Happy Thanksgiving, Doc.

(And, don’t worry, you’re definitely among the sappier contributors here, but that seems like a good thing.)

  2. Hey Russell,

Just wanted to say that it’s been great reading you this last year, great meeting you in Vegas, and I wish your family a terrific holiday season, and even better 2013.

As for the sappiness? Love it!

  3. Happy Thanksgiving to you too, Doc.

I don’t know about sappy. I do know that if we lived in Maine and had small kids, you’d be my first choice to look after their health.

  4. I’ve yet to find anything sappy about your work, Doc.

The blog has been absolutely knockout this year, thanks to you (and Rose!) for writing it.
