Stumbling across something cool is something that goes back millions of years. It’s awesome that this is not hyperbole.
The Makapansgat pebble is a jasperite rock. It looks like it has a face on it.
They found this in a dolerite cave with Australopithecus africanus remains. This rock was miles and miles away from anyplace that had jasperite. The only way for this rock to have gotten where it got was for someone to have picked it up and carried it. (There’s a word for this: manuport.)
Anyway, this is something that I stumbled across a year or so ago when a friend pointed it out. (He mentioned this particular comic in the telling.)
So people have been stumbling across this rock for millions of years (punctuated by people not stumbling across it, of course) and finding it cool.
Which is also cool.
I wonder whose face they saw on the rock.
