Weekend!

Holy cow, is tomorrow Friday already?

Indeed it is.

Well, remember a couple of weeks ago where I said “Maribou has to write *THE PAPER* this weekend. All of the other papers were silly trifles of things compared to this particular paper. As much as I needed to get out of her way for the others, that was just practice for my getting out of the way of this one”?

Well, I had thought that that weekend was actually *THIS* weekend. This is the weekend of *THE PAPER*. Hunker down, hide yourself, and try not to think of what’s going on in the next room. Worse than that, the days not spent on *THE PAPER* will be spent finalizing *THE PROJECT* and that’s just too scary to contemplate. As such, I’ll be spending the next few days running errands and otherwise being vewy, vewy quiet.

So… what’s on your docket?

  1. Finally got in to see the ortho today. Cortisone shot into the wrist, with the warning, “This will feel better in three days, but tomorrow it’s probably going to hurt.”

    Yeah, I can tell already.

      • Carpal tunnel. Tennis elbow. RSI of one sort or another.

On the upside, no nerve damage, no need for surgery or any of that jazz.

  2. Saturday Junior has a play date in the morning and in the afternoon I will be teaching him how to detail my car. Sunday is visiting family/friends.

  3. Can’t you just get noise cancelling headphones and shack up with Commander Shepard for a couple days?

  4. I have to go get the stuff to make a birthday cake.
    Triple-layer blueberry cheesecake.

  5. Not that it really means anything, but here’s a couple of somewhat obscure pieces that I always thought would work well together, the one as a segue piece to the other.
I re-did the arrangement to the first a bit, but not to the second; and the second needs it somewhat.
But I grew tired of the project. Other things to go on to.
It took quite a bit of doing to get the tempos to match up well enough for my liking, and to get the EQ right for the second piece.
If you’re interested in the originals, they’re available somewhere out there.
    But this is my doing.
    I hope you enjoy it.
Which is an odd thing to say, because they’re both sort of depressing.
    But all the same.

  6. Tonight Princess bride and hot tub. Tomorrow reconstructing the diaphragm for a railroad car vestibule.

      • Actually dorks that we are, we are thinking of watching it with the sound off to see if we can recreate all the dialog from our group memory…this isn’t weird is it?

        • My kids used to chime in, in unison, when Wicked Old Dad used to start out “Life IS pain, Highness…”

“….Anyone who says differently is selling something!”

          • Well now I have to watch it.

Come to think of it, my son has never seen it. I should get him hooked when he is young.

I could do that on my own.

Not that this is something to brag about.

      • I was thinking… I was only a few years old than him when I fell in love with PB. He may not understand it all now, but he will in a few years (or most of it anyway). I enjoyed the love story, but I’m guessing his favorite part will be the sword fighting.

    • If you’ve never read the book…well, you owe yourself that, too.

      • Yeah. As good as the movie is, the book really is better: deeper, darker, truer.

And get the latest edition (35th anniversary, I think?) Each new one adds on more metatextual goodies.

  7. For the second weekend in a row, I get to simultaneously recover from an illness while taking care of kids as the same illness passes from child to child. But this is a different illness! And an improvement from last week – not vomiting.

    • Anytime vomiting is not involved in child sickness, it’s a win.

  8. Status Report:

Woke up at 5:40 (paper is due at 6AM). Went downstairs to check on Maribou. Opened door… I don’t want to say exactly what happened next so I will instead tell this story:
I went back upstairs to bed and picked up Cecilia along the way. Cecilia settled in and purred but when Baseball jumped up on the bed (on the opposite side, even), Cecilia charged, yelled, and finished with the loudest hiss in the world. Baseball looked wounded.

At 5:55AM, Maribou yelled, from the basement, “I ROCK!”

We went to sleep for a while.

I am now being sent on an errand to get bagels.

  9. Sightseeing in Seoul on Saturday. It was freezing cold with a hard rain and windy, so we didn’t get to see much.

Now packing up to spend the day flying to Dhaka to work for a few days.
