What It’s Like

Sometimes the life of a professional involves deep emotional ambiguities. I just drafted a very good appellate brief, which contains writing, research, and advocacy which should make me proud of myself. But the brief of necessity paints the trial judge in a very bad light, a judicial officer for whom I otherwise have high regard. It can’t be helped because my duty is to my client and a discussion of an error in the trial court is unavoidable. But having to take this step leaves me ill at ease. That’s what it’s like to do a job like this.

  1. You certainly won’t be doing the judge any favors by letting them continue to be so badly wrong.
