  1. Also, I’ll probably feel some proprietary smugness when the now two-week-old spam attack produces more insincere, computer-generated words of praise in the comments here than there are actual, real comments. The spambots have less than 9,000 virus-packed shills for term papers and fake Prada handbags to go.

    • Yeah, of all of it — spam count, not having topped the charts before (I do this for the eyeballs, man), and the heightened sexiness of your post as compared to mine (which is praise, not bitterness).

      • I just don’t know how that’s possible that you’d never hit the chart top. I’d have thought at least one of the cross posted SCOTUS Greatest Hits would have had the top spot for a few days. Or the one on the oil change guy. Or your one on dog whistling. I remember all of those dominating for more than one day.

And wasn’t there one that got so out of hand with mega-thread flame wars you had to shut it down? Didn’t that one hit the top?

        • I want to say that “In Which I Confess An Inability To Decipher Racial Code” should have hit the top…

          • IIRC, there was a passionate and overwrought meta discussion about TVD going on at the time.

          • That was “Radical Liberal Judicial Activist Usurps Democracy; Foundations Of Republic Itself Threatened”. Which was kinda my fault.

          • Uh huh. I seldom go near the mainpage because these people screw up the blog for days. I don’t enjoy that as much as some people think.

          • “In Which I Confess An Inability To Decipher Racial Code” and “Radical Liberal Judicial Activist” should both be the titles of Bob Dylan songs.

  2. I’m a believer that you should celebrate your successes no matter how short lived or narrowly recognized. I’ve even been known for throwing a little party in my head just for me.

    So yay!!! Congrats! 🙂

  3. This seems ….not possible. I’m going to have to do some digging.

    • Aha! October 3, 2011. “For God So Loveth…”. That post also almost had the most view on October 2. There are surely more, but I’m too lazy to dig further.

          • Kelly, Likko, Thompson: Just looked that post up, and dang but ain’t it meself of all people face-firsting off the diving board into the comments. Even got props for consistency from the erstwhile leader of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

BTW, since it’s just us chickens here, I guess I’ve been doing the Wolverine thing more than Prof X. This world needs X-Men damn badly and it occurs to me that Wolverine is not the community organizer type. There’s a post in here somewheres, or at least an occasion for some serious introspection. Cheers.

          • erstwhile leader of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

            Yawn.

  4. Congrats, Burt.
    Well done.

But it’s not the best of posts that always get a lot of comments.
I had written a series last year about my apprentice; more about the bond between a journeyman and his apprentice. A lot of personal stuff in there. I’m darned proud of the kid, though he’s been screwing up here lately (and I know that, even though I haven’t seen him for seven months).
I thought they were good posts, but I didn’t get many comments.
And then one post, there were several people that stopped by to say something along the lines of, “I think what you’re doing with that young man is fantastic.”
    It made my day.
But it also made me realize that they had been there reading all along.

And now, I’m going to have to offer to sell you a replica watch.
I just wouldn’t feel as if I fit in with your commentariat if I didn’t.
