Commenter Peter Munchen asks:
Oh trying or anarchy now, eh ED? What, your flirtation with liberalism hasn’t worked out? Worked out ok to get you a gig at Forbes after all.
I’ve been fascinated with anarchy and left-libertarianism for a long time now, actually. I think it appeals to both my liberal and more libertarian, anti-authoritarian sides. I’ve written numerous posts on the work of Kevin Carson and mutualism, free market unions, etc. Recently, at Forbes, I wrote two posts on the subject of anarchy. In the first I ask some questions about criminal justice in a stateless society. In the second I muse on free-market anti-capitalism.
Yes, this stuff fascinates me. I find it very compelling. I do “try on” ideas, in a sense, wear them for a while to see how they fit. But I’m not an anarchist – at least not yet. I can’t make it all click. Still, with every new war and every new police beating or other horror story out of the war on drugs, yeah I move closer to something like anarchy.
Then again I think anarchy or left-libertarianism and liberalism are not such different creatures. Part of a similar vein of thought anyways. I’m just moving the pieces around, trying to see how they all fit.
