So, beloved readers, I am soliciting your feedback.
A little while ago I decided that what this site needed was a Weekly Feature. Something fun and frivolous and in keeping with my character. And the answer that struck me was to ask a Stupid Question. Over time I ran out of stupid things to ask, and so mixed in questions of a more or less serious nature. And some of the questions did seem to spark a good discussion, which was the whole point of the endeavor in the first place.
That said, more often these days the question is met with the Internet version of crickets chirping. And it makes me wonder if perhaps it’s time to retire the Feature. Given that Rose has been churning out so much stellar material lately (and thereby raising the tone of this blog by several notches), it’s not like we need the filler.
So, what say you? Enjoyable Feature worth keeping, or should it go the way of the dodo? Let me know. And though I am not a strict evidentialist, I will interpret lack of comment to this post as evidence of absence of interest in continuing the Feature.
Weekly features can be over-rated.
I would say you’re doing fine without one.
On the other hand, iirc, the dodos were killed and eaten by the Dutch, and I would hate to see that happen to any part of your blog here.
I think most of the Dutch are ok these days, but if you see one with a hungry glint in his eye, you might want to be a bit cautious.
I generally like the Stupid Tuesday questions, even if I don’t comment on the post, because the posts are usually pretty entertaining. I’d vote to keep them if voting means any such thing.
Movie Quote Friday came into being to make me post something every week, at least. You don’t appear to have the same struggle with writer’s inertia (block isn’t the right word), so mebbe you don’t need Stupid Tuesdays the way I need Movie Quote Friday, right now.
I love it. I feel sad when I don’t have an answer worthy of the question.
(My relationship to weekly features is not necessarily representative of everyone’s, however.)
FWIW: “I feel sad when I don’t have an answer worthy of the question.” — I feel that way, myself. They’re usually such good silly questions.
I enjoy it too. But if you skip a week here and there, no big deal. I think this week neither Will nor I came up with a trivia puzzle.
If you’re looking for my blessing, then I say, feel free to skip a silly Tuesday question one week, but then do it again the next week when inspiration strikes, and don’t even bother to apologize or explain why.
Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come.
Corporation tee-shirt, stupid bloody Tuesday.
Man, you been a naughty boy, you let your face grow long.
Who are you?
I am the eggman.
Curse you, Schilling! Now that song is stuck in my head!
I like the feature. I (almost) always mean to participate, but Tuesday is a bad day to me because I spend four hours on the road, so it often slides.
(For what it’s worth, I often run into the same problem with the Fringe Bookclub.)
I’m not sure where to ask, but this posting is free-form enough as to be a virtual invitation….
What’s the deal with Leaguefest? Is it too late to join?
Our cruise director is the esteemed Mr. Likko. That said, I believe the invitation remains open to all.
Depends. Are those your real teeth? (I can’t decide whether an affirmative answer means you can’t go or you absolutely have to go. It’s one or the other…)
It is never too late to Join Leaguefest!*
*(unless it’s June)
I love the feature – sometimes I don’t have a story worth sharing (sometimes I share it anyway, natch) – but the post and comment thread are always worth reading so I always make a note to catch it on Tuesdays.
I like it.
I vote keep it other wise what will we all do with our stupid answers? With the caveat that it needn’t be strictly weekly
I love STQ. It’s always fun and communal, and is usually my favorite part of the League each week.
It’s one of the features I wish I had thought of first.
You are all very kind. OK, then. I’ll keep the Feature. I have material for the next three weeks at least, so it stays weekly for now.
yay!
