The equal protection under the law is new.
Thank you, my beloved Better Half. I love you, and would marry you over and over and over again.

Congratulations!
How wonderful.
Congrats
And yet with all this help of head and brain,
How happily instinctive we remain.
Our best guide upward farther to the light:
Passionate preference such as love at sight.
Awesome! Congratulations.
I couldn’t be happier for you.
Huzzah!
Congrats! Is the patterning on the rings representative of anything, or is it just decorative? It seems like that sawtooth edging might catch on clothing (sorry to focus on this; it’s on my brain because my ring has a thin beveled edge and I caught it on something today, and I am contemplating – if I ever replace it – getting one with a thicker, rounded edge).
Yeah my first reaction after the “Awww” was the “holy Hannah, don’t get in a fistfight with anyone wearing one of those bands!”
Don’t know about the edges, but the Hebrew on the band is from Song of Solomon: “I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine.”
Awwwwwww, congratulations!!!!! 🙂
Yay. Congratulations for getting the government to finally recognize what you’ve had all along.

While I appreciate Russell’s charity in letting this comment stand, I will not. This is completely and absolutely unacceptable – period. Damon, I am suspending commenting privileges.
If Damon – or anyone else – has issues with my decision, they can email me directly. If you choose to make this post a place to have this argument, I will ban you hard and fast.

See the difference with “tree lovers” and “beastialists” is that their “relationships” involve non-humans, which are categorically different than humans and consequently can be justified in having different rights (the non-humans). A relationship between two consenting adults js different than one between a consenting adult and a non-human that cannot give consent.
I am fully in support of polyamory once we work out the practical issues.
But today is a day to celebrate Russ and his family! Mazel!
For the record I fully endorse your right to go have sex with yourself.
I’m a beast. Someone loves me. Does that make her a beastialist? Beasts can be loyal and kindly. Beasts can love. Given my choice, I will side with the beasts and not humans like unto yourself, “humans” who begrudge other people their hard-won rights. Petty, spiteful little man. Shame on you.
This whole downward slide towards moral destruction started when gummint first recognized hetero marriage. If only those old-timey TradMed people understood the consequences of their actions!
How did Tom from Parks and Rec put it? I have never taken the high road. But I tell other people to ’cause then there’s more room for me on the low road.
If the Ents ever find the Ent Wives i will fully support their right to have their marriage recognized legally. Frankly you got to wonder what the Ents have been up to at night since they “lost” the Ent Wives.
Long overdue. Congratulations!
Congratulations! This is nothing short of wonderful!
Congrats doc! I’m still hiding under the coffee table for fear that my better half will decide to make a full on ceremony of our getting hitched in America.
Congratulations
Late to the party, but congrats to you both.
In recompense for my tardiness, I offer this morsel from one of my most favoritest poets, Jane Hirshfield.
A BLESSING FOR A WEDDING
Today when persimmons ripen
Today when fox-kits come out of their den into snow
Today when the spotted egg releases its wren song
Today when the maple sets down its red leaves
Today when windows keep their promise to open
Today when fire keeps its promise to warm
Today when someone you love has died
or someone you never met has died
Today when someone you love has been born
or someone you will not meet has been born
Today when rain leaps to the waiting of roots in their dryness
Today when starlight bends to the roofs of the hungry and tired
Today when someone sits long inside his last sorrow
Today when someone steps into the heat of her first embrace
Today, let this light bless you
With these friends let it bless you
With snow-scent and lavender bless you
Let the vow of this day keep itself wildly and wholly
Spoken and silent, surprise you inside your ears
Sleeping and waking, unfold itself inside your eyes
Let its fierceness and tenderness hold you
Let its vastness be undisguised in all your days
Ah – I loved this poem a long time ago, and had forgotten it. Thank you for sharing it with Russell, and so, with all of us.
Heh. it came out in 2010. not TOO long ago. seems like ages though. *hugs for Tod and Russell and all*
This calls for a drink!
Congrats! I’m so happy for you both!
Again, Mazel Tov! I’m so happy for you, your husband, and kids.
