The War on Drugs Turns 40

Conor has a good post up on the War on Drugs, and includes this handy chart:

dea budget

Of course, this is just the DEA budget. The expansion of police departments, S.W.A.T. forces and the numerous other agencies at the local, state, and federal level has been even more galling.

Fortunately for us, the War on Drugs has led to the end of drug abuse in America and a new era of sobriety, peace and prosperity not seen since the days of alcohol prohibition.

  1. I am hoping that someone will do an analysis of spend, man hours and jail sentences by drug. The continued criminalization of marijuana is one of the greatest tragedies in US law today.

  2. The famous evangelist Billy Sunday staged a mock funeral for John Barleycorn and then preached on the benefits of prohibition. “The reign of tears is over,” he asserted. “The slums will soon be only a memory. We will turn our prisons into factories and our jails into storehouses and corncribs.”

  3. No! It must continue on.The planet needs depopulation, and how else could you get the Mexicans to cut off each others heads, and kill each other.Hillary Clinton has stated that the US’s Number ONE agenda is Population Control.Think of the carbon footprints the dead Mexicans on the border would have been making if not for the genius of the drug war.We also have Mexican Police who get decapitated _fighting_the drug war! It’s win win baby! It’s a great reason for them to dress up in Storm Trooper costumes and feel like a big shot till they get shot!
The cheese for the poor is you let them have the drugs and for a few short moments in their peasant live under Calderone? They get some (to them) Big Time Living till they are killed! It’s great for mother earth because humans not the sun are heating up the planet, and um,theres too many people on it and all that stuff!
The best part is with drug cheese they do it to each other!
    And they love it!
If it was about the childrenthen we wouldn’t give the kiddies synthetic cocaine (Ritalin) to be high while they learn how to obey authorities and experts who teach them to obey and be diverse!
It’s great for law enforcement because it generates more business for the stakeholders who are invested in laundering the money like Wells Fargo, and the prison union employees. How can deadbeat Americans pay off the National Debt they created without the money generated by the humane drug war.
Nixon was a great man,and so was Reagan just do like they say. They didn’t like the drug war anymore than you did but it’s neccesary and thats what to keep in mind.
With more crime we get increased depopulation and everyone agrees, to kill useless eaters makes life better at the tip top of societies most useful eaters.
Nosiree I say keep it going on forever.
