If I were to start making oblique references in these posts, I could have called this one “Gambon!”, I suppose.
Anyway, this week’s wine is Layer Cake Shiraz 2009. Reg $21.79, on sale for $15.99? I suspect that the point of this website is solely to make me feel better about patronizing my locally owned booze shoppes. I picked up my bottle for $14.89.
Here’s what it says on the back of the bottle: My old grandfather made and enjoyed wine for 80 years. He told me the soil in which the vines lived were a layer cake. He said, the wine, if properly made, was like a great layer cake, fruit, mocha, chocolate, and hints of spice — and rich, always rich. ‘Never pass up a good Layer Cake,’ he would say. ‘I have always loved those words.’
Good stuff. I recommend it with nachos.
