So… what are you listening to?
Knapp recently wrote about a modern worshipper of Thor (among other deities) who encountered the first wave of toys associated with the upcoming Thor movie. I imagine that there would be much eyebrow knitting.
In that vein, there is a large sub-group of metalheads out there writing songs about the Norse mythos (among others). The one that I currently enjoy more than any other is The Sword. They’ve got an awesome song about Freya that, if you’ve played Guitar Hero III, you’re already familiar with. If you haven’t, here it is.
There’s recently been a TV series on in New Zealand about a group of reincarnated Norse Gods who are looking for Frigg so she and Odin can hook up thereby restoring their full power (each one has only a small power that translates to the god they are a reincarnation of).
Its actually quite good, and you don’t see Norse mythology referenced that often (Thor notwithstanding).
What is it called? Is it sub-titled?
Yeah, sounds interesting.
This is something worth lifting for a tabletop game.
It’s called The Almighty Johnsons, and as for subtitles, you do realise we speak English down here, right?
Here’s the trailer.
I completely misread “New Zealand” as, like, Finland or something.
I feel dumb, for what that’s worth.
Fair enough 🙂
Incidentally, The Almighty Johnsons is coming out on DVD in a month. Of course, you’d need a multi-zone DVD player to play it.
Does listenning to pod casts count as listenning to music?
If John Cage is music then I don’t see why a podcast wouldn’t be music.
I’ve been listening to a compilation album of the Sons of the Pioneers. It’s a delight to my ears. Lee says even the sad songs don’t sound so sad. Other than that I have Explosions in the Sky, an instrumental post-rock band, who I have taken a shine to over the past year thanks to my cousin-in-law.
Thanks to Mr. Knapp I’ll be digging out my soundtrack to Jesus Christ Superstar.
Guitar Hero II, not III
Really? My goodness. I thought that Freya was complex enough to have shown up on III… I remember it being nigh impossible, anyway. That’s why I put it on III rather than II which I remember as being merely pretty fun without being too crazy until you got to the Rush songs.
I remember seeing that song and thinking “Who the hell are ‘The Sword'” and being pretty blown away by the song. It’s awesome.
Check out “Maiden, Mother, Crone”. It’s pretty sweet too.
