In listening to Quadrophenia in my head countless times over the last couple of days, there are a couple of songs that still stay with me.
My goodness. John Entwistle is impeccable. Keith Moon is insane. He shouldn’t be able to do that. That shouldn’t work. Roger Daltrey can scream in tune. How is that possible? Pete Townshend not only played that, he wrote it. He not only wrote it, he *PLAYED* it. (Note: some may need to watch out for this next one as there is drug use and alcohol abuse.)
And you just exhale in awe.
So… what are you listening to?
Ironically (and also awesomely) they just announced yesterday that The Who is coming to Louisville in February.
I’ve been giving Quadrophenia another long listen during my commute since I don’t think I’ve gone through it start to finish in several years. I listen to ‘Real Me’ about once per month though. That interaction of the drums and bass in that song is ridiculous.
The Real Me has the best bass-playing ever. Except for My Generation. And Happy Jack. And La-la-la-lies. And Who Are You And the Listening to You chorus, And …
If I had to pick the two best bassists in the world, I’d probably pick Bootsy and Entwistle.
And not necessarily in that order.
