Wo(ei)rd Association

Twice in the past month, I found this video posted to my Facebook wall.  Apparently when they saw it, they thought about me.  I found this interesting.  Despite a brazen amount of cockiness, I’m not much of a performer.  I’ll clown around with friends and indulge in drunken karaoke, but otherwise, I shy away from the public spotlight.  I even go so far as to avoid making eye contact with other adults in the classroom when leading a lesson with my students.  I just don’t like attention being focused on me in that way.  I’m a bad dancer, a worse singer, and can’t do a Shaggy impression to save my life.  Yet, two different friends, two people who’ve known me since I was 11-years-old, saw this video and thought of me.  And I totally understood why.  It doesn’t really make any sense, but it also makes perfect sense.

In a nod to the good doctor, I am making my own inquiry of the commentariat: Are there any weird things that folks associate with you, which make perfect sense in some regards and zero sense in others?  The type of association that make some people go, “Of course!” and others go, “What the fish?”  Would any of you associate me with this video?  Why or why not?

  1. That’s awesome. You should be proud that people would think of you when seeing that. I lmao.

People associate me with a hippie; yoga, tea instead off coffee, avoid preservatives, vegetarian, etc. I would not call myself “hippie”.

  2. I moved across the country in some small part to move beyond all of the things people more or less fairly associated with me.

  3. I can’t comment on the video, not yet having had the pleasure of making your acquaintance in the 3D world.

And pretty much all the associations people have with me (a certain Madonna song in particular) I have coming.
