Somnology!

I’m *THIS* close to saying “we should take a week off for the holidays”. We’re not in a major story arc, we’re not even in a minor story arc. We’re smack dab in the middle of a handful of (excellent) one-shot stories and we’re also smack dab in the middle of The Holidays. Which means that people might be Too Busy To Read and/or Recap.

Then again, I don’t know your life. Reading Sandman and Recapping issues might be exactly what would be best for you.

Vote for “ONE (OR TWO) WEEK(S) OFF!!!” or “SOLDIER AHEAD!!!” in the comments.

Whether we take off a week or so or continue on, we’ll be reading the last two issues of The Sandman, Vol. 3: Dream Country. The assignment will be to read A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Façade. Alan Scott has the former, we still need a recapper for the latter.

As always, if you absolutely positively have to talk about some major spoiler in comments, please rot13.

It has also come up that some wish to have a place where they can yell “DIBS!” I suppose this is as good a place to yell “dibs!” as any. (One should also keep in mind that just because someone yelled “DIBS!” on your favorite book, the one that you were hoping to recap, know that you can still submit one. We’ll read and argue over that one too.) Dibs, so far, behind the cut:

Katherine wants #31, Distant Mirrors – Three Septembers and a January

Russell Saunders wants #35, Beginning to See the Light

Russell Saunders wants #36, Over the Sea to Sky

Russell Saunders wants #50, Ramadan

Katherine wants #53, Hob’s Leviathan

Reformed Republican wants #54, The Golden Boy

And Seasons of Mists promises to have numerous people tackling numerous titles… you may wish to make your dibs as soon as possible.

  1. Ooh, that’s an extra week to procrastinate for me! Not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

I’m fine with pressing on, or with waiting. For all that they’re “a handful of (excellent) one-shot stories”, Calliope and Midsummer at least share some important connections, and I recommend reading the latter with the former in mind. On the other hand, I’m working on a pretty cool piece, and I’d hate for people to miss it because they were too busy Christmassing.

If we do take a break, maybe we should skip our customary break between books and jump right on into Mists, though.

  2. I vote we power through it and also skip the break. These bite-size stories make me eager to rejoin the main plotline. And I will do Facade, if no one else wants it.

  3. SOLDIER ON! If the Apocalypse can’t stop me, then neither will some fat guy with raw venison.

  4. Looks like we’re soldiering on, for the record. Onward we go!

But we’ll then take a week off between books, the way we do.
