(Guest post by Maribou)
Jaybird’s week involved two thirteen-hour days, the second of which just finished about an hour ago. Hence, it falls to me to say, “Holy cow! Is tomorrow Friday already? Indeed it is,” and then talk about how his entire week has involved working, recovering from working, and sleeping. His weekend this week? Working. And then sleeping. He’ll also be taking his wife out to dinner tomorrow night at that local deli where we’ve known them for more than ten years and they remember how we like our sandwiches.
As for me, I will probably be catching up on all the homework that I didn’t have time to do during this meshuggeneh week. Also watching, reading, and playing stuff, but we can talk about that later.
What’s on your docket?
After a hugely busy, not-a-minute-to-rest weekend last week, a pretty low key setup this week. A basketball game to coach on Saturday afternoon. Possible (but not for sure) beer with Mad Rocket. Sleep. Reading.
Which all sounds kind of awesome.
Yes, yes it does.
Any chance we’ll be seeing another book post from you one of these days? *puppy dog eyes*
Duh, I just remembered, there will be more Beowulf stuff. *needs to go reinvestigate the front page*
The first round with the UHaul will probably be this weekend. If not this weekend, then next. The weekend after that we’re flying cross-country for a job interview. But I should save that for the Weekend! post after next.
Moving while looking forward to possibly moving again in the near future is really just garbage.
Seriously. Jaybird and I have been in our house for 10 years now, and I’m not sure he’ll EVER convince me to move again… Hang in there!
It was going to be restful, but today I got one of those “How hard would it be?” questions which I don’t know enough to answer intelligently. This probably means a lot of research and thinking over the weekend, so on Tuesday I’ll have something useful to say.
Is it an interesting question? Or just one involving a lot of woodshedding?
A good answer needs to be good in about five dimensions: efficient, reliable, clear, not too expensive to build, and compatible with two existing things that aren’t particularly compatible. So, “interesting” is an understatement 🙂
Tonight I am baking a red velvet cake, which I will be serving tomorrow when my friends come over to play Star Wars: Edge of the Empire, which I will be GMing. http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite.asp?eidm=224
ooh, neat.
*misses gaming*
*sighs quietly*
Hey Maribou!
Dinner with friends tonight, then we ship off to Newport, RI for the weekend for what is likely the last trip we take together for a long time. Very excited to escape to a place we love for a few days.
Since I’m off today, more work tearing up carpets and getting other things done around the house.
Hey Kazzy! Have fun in Rhode Island… I have some friends who moved there a couple years back and they <3 <3 the place.
Today marks the end of the second full week at my new job and, despite assurances from my coworkers that it’ll get better, I’m now more convinced than ever that I was not meant to be a tech writer. But on the bright side, I’m still drawing a paycheck from a company I really like, I’ve got a three-day weekend, and there’s a slim (slimslim) chance that I might get moved back into a sys admin position before the end of February.
The hardest part about tech writing (as a systems guy) is when you have to document something that you know is done badly, or you have to document something that is necessarily more complex than your audience is going to enjoy.
Those things suck.
Three-day weekend! WOO!!
(I dunno if this will happen to you, but sometimes when I’m doing something new, it goes, like “Oh, I can do this,” “WHAT THE FUCK WHY AM I DOING THIS,” “Ah, okay, cool.” So maybe you are just on step 2 of 3? I will hope so – or hope you do get moved!)
We happy three keep telling ourselves that it’s only been ten days. Our lead reassures us that there will be an “A-ha!” moment after which everything will click into place, but right now we are definitely up the creek with no light at the end of the tunnel and a deadline burning our canoe at both ends.
Super busy weekend: tonight I will be visiting my sister in the hospital, Saturday is a girlfriend’s birthday party, Sunday afternoon is visiting one of my wine clubs with a few other girlfriends, and Sunday evening is gaming with friends who also have kids so Junior can run around. Luckily I’ve got Monday off for the holiday and will be resting up and reading all day (after I hit the gym, of course).
Wow, that *is* a lot. Best wishes for your sister.
Going to see Eddie From Ohio Sunday night.
Thanks for including the link – I’d never heard of these guys, and they sound great!
