Wednesday!

So… what are you listening to?

Back when I worked out a million times a week and threw kettlebells around, I listened to all kinds of heavy metal music and the stuff that I found the most intruiging was the new Norse metal. Amon Amarth was the stuff that I found the most pleasant of the “cookie monster” bands we listened to, so I looked up their videos and had myself a good laugh. I pointed out to my friend, whose music this was, that these guys take themselves even more seriously than Rage Against The Machine and he said, nah, dude. The lead singer regularly teases the rest of the band. The band says stuff like “We think the Vikings would have appreciated this music” and he says stuff like “They played jaw harps.” I asked what Amon Amarth stands for and my friend sheepishly said “Mount Doom”… which changed my interpretation of this video considerably. Instead of a bunch of guys paying homage to their ancestors, I see a bunch of guys playing D&D. Try to watch 0:35 and not imagine the lead singer saying “my Elf draws his bow to slay the Orc.”

Check them out.

  1. That guy is so pissed that he lost the staring contest to the skull.

Me, I’m listening to the Decemberists’ new one a lot.

  2. “TV on the Radio, Return to Cookie Mountain”, thanks to Maribou’s comment the other day.

On the basis of demonstrated capability to recommend stuff coming out of your domicile, I ordered a copy of Dungeon Lords this morning. If your ability to recommend survives critical analysis of that game, I’m going to have to demand you start posting lists of stuff I need to look into. I’m just sayin’.

    • Every Tuesday!!!

If you are having trouble with the Dungeon Lords manual, ask questions.

I don’t know how much good I can do over the ‘tubes, but if we hammer stuff out in the Dungeon Lords post comments, it may even help others.
