Weekend!

This time of year is, seriously, crazy. There’s so much stuff to do, so many places to go, and so many people to see. On top of that, we’re getting ready for vacation season at work which means that all of the stuff we would have to do if everybody was here needs to be done twice as quickly and early because we’re going to have three weeks of “oh, we can’t do this next part without talking to so-and-so and s/he’s going to be gone for a week” with different so-and-sos sprinkled liberally starting at COB on the 9th.

(I am taking *MY* vacation on the first week of January… I’d rather be at work for the “nobody’s at work” season and miss the first week of “everybody’s back and bleary-eyed”.)

I don’t want to start thinking about my upcoming vacation *QUITE* yet, though. I mean, what better way to drag out the next month, right?

So I’m looking instead at this upcoming weekend. The main rule is “run interference for Maribou who has to write a paper”. So that means that I have to answer the phone, do errands, do chores, and basically make sure that she has the mental space to do the stuff she needs to do with a minimum of interruption.

Which, basically, means that if I’m in the house, I’m in the basement. (Ah, heaven.)

So… what’s on your docket?

  1. I suspect at least some of it will be spend traipsing around local merchants’ establishment, trying to find items for all the various members of the Better Half’s ginormous family.

  2. Saturday: Rise early, two hour drive, 6 hour swim meet, two hour drive home, collapse.

Sunday: Purchase and decorate the Christmas tree (one of the best parts of Christmas).

    • From the front page, you get cut off at “six hour swim” and I was thinking “dang, that’s hardcore”

  3. I’m cleaning up from the windstorm.

Which was not, originally, on my list of things to think about this weekend. I wanted to bang out the paper on Hegel and Intellectual Property, but that’s going to have to wait.

    • 33 x 30 gallon bags ~ 1,000 gallons of wind debris bagged up. There are two piles left, combined they’re about the size of my car.

      I need a whiskey.

        • Not sure yet.

You get two “large pickups” from Pasadena a year. Normally they don’t do them this close to New Year’s. But right now there’s still four fully grown, huge oak trees down on my block and every house has a pile of branches and leaves and a couple of decent sized limbs even after everyone harvested firewood with the chainsaw. City is saying it might be “months” before the cleanup is done, which isn’t surprising really when there’s a couple of tons of debris on every block.

Might have to hire a hauler. Either that or borrow somebody’s pickup and take the bags in four or five trips.

    • Cleaning up from a windstorm sounds more productive than writing about Hegel anyway. Or maybe that’s must my aversion to continental philosophy. *grin*

As one who’s familiar with normal Santa Ana winds, you all have my sympathy. I’m glad we didn’t have them so badly during my time out there.

  4. Some Christmas shopping on Saturday, then probably diving into Skyward Sword that night. And then hair cut and psuedo jury duty downtown for my friend’s lawschool project.
