My little local mom and pop liquor shoppe had a local microbrewery demo tonight from Ska Brewing Company. I’m normally not a beer guy but, hey, it’s wintertime and maybe they’d have something malty for me to try before I got my bottle of wine.
I tried three different brews. The first was their Decadent Imperial IPA. This was waaay too hoppy for me (not that that is too difficult to achieve, of course). It started hoppy, was hoppy in the middle, and finished hoppy. I felt like I had just eaten a flower. If hoppy is what you’re going for, this will give you that.
The second one was Euphoria Pale Ale. This really toned down the hops (still there, though) for a lovely beer that starts sweet with light fruit and finishes somewhat bitter with a bit of resin. (It made me wish I had some Italian Nachos, actually.)
The last one I tried was a real peach of a beer, though. The Ten Pin Porter. Very malty, very creamy. If you happen to see a bottle of this out in your neck of the woods, you should pick it up. I sipped it and immediately felt warmer.
I picked up a couple of bottles to hide away until after the paper is written and got a bottle of something red for myself. I’ll talk about that another week, though.
You had me at “hoppy.”
Is your local going to carry their beer? I checked out their website and all I saw was Durango, Durango, Durango, and Commerce City.
I think so. (I know that Cheers, for example, has it.)
