Weekend!

Holy cow, is tomorrow Friday already?

Indeed it is.

As we shift into a bit of a slow period, we also shift into a bit of a period where everybody is going on vacation thus making sure that the amount of work seems more or less the same even as there is, technically, less to do. Which means that even though it’s slower, it’s not.

Asking Maribou what’s the plan for the weekend, she rattled off a bunch of stuff… lye berry, comic book store, pet store, It Will Always Be Wild Oats To Us, and maybe groceries too. But not Costco. Not this week. By the time we finish that on Saturday, it’ll be time for gaming that evening, allowing us to sleep in somewhat to prepare for the Money In The Bank ppv on Sunday Night at our local Blast Area (the one with the kick’n steak sandwich).

Which means that Friday Night is devoted to sweet, sweet laundry.

So… what’s on your docket?

  1. High school swim team fundraiser. I get to spend $50 to ride on a bus full of drunks to a casino full of smoke, and try to pretend gambling doesn’t bore me to tears.

That and hopefully finishing the kitchen re-do, which has been a smashing success so far.

    • In situations like this, I just donate the money and claim a prior engagement.

Alternatively, you can play blackjack, mutter to yourself a lot, take long stares at the other player’s cards when they’re turned face up, vary your bets randomly, and if it all works you’ll get thrown out for card-counting.

      • It’s a long hot walk back home. And the casino is in the middle of a field somewhere near Battle Creek, MI, so it’s not like I can hit the bar down the street.

      • Jaybird; There are actually multiple seasons, which makes it a year ’round event. Right now we’re in summer club seasons (ours is a 6 team Ohio/Michigan league composed of a combo of municipal and neighborhood pool teams). Here in Michigan the high school girls’ season is roughly the same as the high school football season (fall), while the boys’ season follows that. And we have a YMCA season which is late fall through early spring. And then there is USA (U.S. Swimming Association, the official national level sanctioning organization, affiliated with Olympics and all) that, I think, has events pretty much year round. USA swimming can be like travel soccer, really serious full-time stuff. My kids basically do year round swimming, but with substantial breaks between seasons. E.g., summer season ends in two or three weeks, my eldest daughter’s high school practices begin in about 4 weeks, and the younger daughters’ Y practice begins in early October.

Kazzy, I plan to put up some pics on my blog, eventually, when I stop being lazy about posting.

      Pics or not real.

  2. Nothing tonight, but gaming with you and the other tomorrow. Yeah!

  3. going to my cousin’s wedding, maybe arguing with some friends about the mass effect 3 ending.

  4. We’re going to try to finally see Brave tonight.

Tommorow I am heading down to the farm for some pre-hunting season chores and maybe some shooting.

    • Write a review, for those of us with daughters.

      • Ah – not much to report. It’s a solid Disney movie. Slightly predictable plot (for grownups) with a loveable main character. It does have a few scary moments and my 7 year old neice jumped into her mother’s lap each time. The best part no songs.

        *sigh*

        That made me EXTREMELY happy.

I should also say that my two teenager daughters laughed their heads off through most of the movie. My wife and I had some good chuckles too. Overall I’d give it an A- for the genre.

        • And no lovable sidekick animals (well, one, but he’s a pretty minor character.) And I agree that it’s a Disney movie that happened to be animated by Pixar, not a Pixar movie.

I took my college-age daughter and a friend of hers. We all enjoyed it.

  5. Sleeping, reading, Home Despot, haircut, and all that other stuff you mentioned. Also cleaning the bathrooms and switching out the litterboxes.

Monday will be devoted to doing as little as possible however. Hooray for short summer workweeks!

    • Happy Birthday, Critter! (Does the Critter’s pseud have anything to do with Mercer Mayer’s Little Critter books? I loved those books when I was that age…)

    • Happy Birthday to the critter (a term we often use for our own daughters, despite occasional horrified reactions from non-family members)

  6. Buddy in town tomorrow. Attending step-grandpappy’s 90th, which will be hosted at his local social club. A real foray into the “other America”… Should be fun! And I say that with absolutely no sarcasm!

  7. I have a brand-new Kenwood TH-F6A handheld triband radio.

Alas, I do not have the comp-usb cable, I’m going to have to pick that up tomorrow. And then I’m going to probably spend the rest of the weekend painting Hannah’s dollhouse and fiddling around with ham radio gear.

  8. As it turns out, we’re moving at the end of the month, so there’s a lot of packing and general prepping for that (the landlord is coming next week to take pictures for the new ad).

Oh, and wasing my vagina, of course.

  9. So, like, we said “you know, we could go to the hardware store and the pet store tonight…”

And Wild Oats was there. And, hey, since we’re stopping at the liquor store next to the grocery store, we may as well go to the grocery store…

Man, we just got home. Just now.

It feels good knowing that all we have to do tomorrow is laundry, the library, and the comic book store… but, seriously, let’s not do this next weekend.

  10. The local summer festivities have turned my tiny rural town into a complete madhouse for the weekend. But it comes with an awesome fireworks display! I LOVE watching big, loud fireworks and being around all of those people 🙂
