That is certainly a far worse outcome… but charging the mound is nothing new. Nor is overreacting at the plate. If I remember correctly, the Don Zimmer/Pedro Martinez altercation arose out of Manny Ramirez charging the plate in response to a pitch that was head high but out over the plate.
To win the IAACR, one needs to show a certain calculated craziness. As in they had the wherewithal to exercise a uniquely crazy behavior but while simultaneously lacking the wherewithal to not exercise a uniquely crazy behavior. If you catch my drift.
