  1. Soler may have confronted a player in his dugout with a bat, but no blows were rendered. So I nominate Carlos Quentin instead. Charged the mound on a clearly inadvertent brush, breaking a $25-million-a-year pitcher’s collarbone and thus ensuring retribution later in the season.

    • That is certainly a far worse outcome… but charging the mound is nothing new. Nor is overreacting at the plate. If I remember correctly, the Don Zimmer/Pedro Martinez altercation arose out of Manny Ramirez charging the plate in response to a pitch that was head high but out over the plate.

      To win the IAACR, one needs to show a certain calculated craziness. As in they had the wherewithal to exercise a uniquely crazy behavior but while simultaneously lacking the wherewithal to not exercise a uniquely crazy behavior. If you catch my drift.
