This is small-town politics executed clumsier than usual.
First there was the “God resolution” and now this. Actually, the return of the term limits puts the “God resolution” in a whole new light, as the Commissioners were clearly scrambling for support.
The Gray Lady has a good point — nineteen county commissioners to govern 526 square miles and 400,000 people is a bit excessive. Los Angeles County has 4,752 square miles (about 1/9th the size of the entire state of Tennessee) and more than 10,000,000 people. We have five county commissioners and no equivalent of a county mayor. The job gets done.
