My kids on the mock trial team did it — after a very tough match against my alma mater, the local Catholic high school. They faced an aggressive prosecution case from that school, with some kids who looked confident and poised. But two of my students, the attorneys, were objecting like jacks-in-the-boxes all night long, and the prosecution’s case got hopelessly lost; much of the time they were forced to admit that my kids’ objections to their questions were well-taken. We had strong witnesses, great questions, and best of all, they stood up to a very hostile judge (a judge I’ve had difficulty trying cases before in the past, too). So next week it’s the championship!
