I don’t know what this building is (we didn’t stop to investigate) but it is really attractive and is right on the edge of the UW campus and the student ghetto surrounding State Street, the boulevard with bookstores, pubs, restaurants, coffee houses, and clothing shops that accompany your typical major college campus. Ivy grows up the side of the building but its dark red brick and fortress-like architecture are striking:
This is the view from the patio outside the student union building at UW — although we were there a little early in the day for that sort of thing, I have to imagine that students grabbing a pitcher of beer from the nearby on-campus pub and having a bull session on the lakeshore is an intensely pleasant way to spend an afternoon. Ah, college.
