I’m not sure if this is an April Fool’s Joke or not, coming as it does from David Horowitz’ Frontpage Magazine, usually a good place to go if your fridge is running low on red Kool-Aid.
But if it is not a joke, then I welcome it as a clarion call to the Barack Obama Birthplace Truthers to give up the ghost: “Barack Obama was born in Hawai’i, August 4, 1961 at Kapiolani Medical Center in Honolulu. [¶] Obama’s birth certificate posted online is exactly the same birth certificate everybody in Hawaii gets from the State Department of Health. It is not forged. There is nothing unusual about the design or the texture.”
With so many opportunities to criticze the Obama Administration about matters of policy, this sort of thing has always seemed to be a little bit too far out to merit serious consideration — yet it doesn’t seem to go away, and instead is a focus for attention on all sides of the aisle. Frontpage‘s author is right to point out that this is to the detriment of serious political discusion and that those who continue to push on this issue are doing a disservice to conservatives, Republicans, and anyone else who has substantive concerns not with Barack Obama simply being President but rather with what he is doing with the Presidency.
