I love it when articles on the internet dovetail. One of my favorite philosophy bloggers, Chris Hallquist, offers his thoughts on “When to vote for nincompoops.” Then, a prominent political candidate immediately says things which establish that he is, in fact, a nincompoop.

What do you consider more nincompoopish: that he was wrong, or that he thought being right would be a good thing?
I think the biggest feat of nincompoopery evidenced here is Perry’s letting the cat out of the bag that what Texas is ostensibly doing (“students are directed to investigate and evaluate all theories”) is really code for “teaching creationism.”
That was supposed to be a secret?
I’ve got two T-shirts. One shows a periodic table with the elements earth, air, fire, and water. The other, a flat earth resting on four elephants standing on a turtle. Both are captioned “Teach the controversy”.
I now covet your shirts.

Nincompoops seem to be getting a lot of voter support lately (Bush, Perry, Palin, Bachmann, etc.). Does this mean that an increasing proportion of the electorate is composed of nincompoops? Or, does it mean that we always had lots of nincompoops among us, but the internet & YouTube just make it easier to see them?
