Her Majesty Victoria, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland Queen, Defender of the Faith, Empress of India had something in common with some other famous people. People like Tracy Chapman. Jacques Cousteau. James Dean. David Hasselhoff. Wayne Gretzsky. Pablo Picasso. Erwin Rommel. Adlai Stevenson II. Fay Wray. And Vincent Price too — today is Halloween, after all. What links all these people?

Thev’ye all owned dachshunds.
Wow.
Sure, you can Google these things and you’ll find them eventually (this one easier than others, as it turns out) but that sort of takes all the fun out of it. I’m not saying that’s what Randy Harris did. But still: drat!
I thought this one was going to be really obscure. Peoples’ pets, for cripes’ sake. I was figuring this was going to need at least two days’ worth of hints I hadn’t written yet. I thought having the same sort of pet in common was going to be really challenging, especially after I reverse-wikipedia’d it and found almost no mentions of dachshunds in almost any of the biographical entries.
Are you a dachshund enthusiast, Randy Harris, to have known this one within ninety minutes of my posting it?
Oh, and I could have put on Napoleon, too; he had Doxies. On some other day, I probably would have. But you know that on Halloween I had to end with Vincent Price — who, it turns out, was also the author of a rather butter-rich cookbook.
Dachshunds? Seriously? I thought he was joking.
I meant down soooo many rabbit holes today trying to find a connection.
If only you’d sent your dachshund down the rabbit holes…
I didn’t have even an inkling, and was waiting for more hints. I did think the answer would be Halloween-related, though.
Just a lucky Google search. In hindsight, rather than blurting out the answer I should have posted a hint so that others could have had some fun guessing.
What about Roy Rogers? He often told people to get a long, little doggie.
They’re all frigging Germans.
Pablo Picasso bombed Pearl Harbor?
Probably.
Tough one. Some living, some dead; entertainers, athletes, military figures, politicians, monarchs, so no common professions; Americans, Germans, Canadians, and Brits. Ordinarily, all that would limit the possible commonalities to something like birthday. Except that they don’t remotely share the same birthday.
I got nothing.
