Wednesday!

In the comments to last Wednesday’s post, RTod mentioned Leonard Cohen’s song Hallelujah as another song that has a double boatload of folks covering it… but, he pointed out, they pretty much all sound the same. I agree with him. My hypothesis for this is because everybody is covering Leonard Cohen rather than covering each other (which would allow the song to cascade down into some spectacularly weird territory like “S/He Called Me Baby” did). Instead of being almost indistinguishable from the original song, all of the covers are one degree of separation away from the original.

But that got me thinking about Hallelujah, which got me thinking about Jeff Buckley’s cover of it, which got me thinking about Jeff Buckley, which got me thinking about his song “Last Goodbye” which, if you ask me, has the… I’m trying to find a better adjective than “sexiest” but I’m not finding one… sexiest bassline I’ve heard from any given song in the 90’s, oughts, and tweens. They don’t make them like this anymore, boyo.

So… what are you listening to?
