It Is 1933

Widespread, persistent, pervasive unemployment for years on end. Experiments with massive amounts of money and government intervention in the economy thought of by really smart people who never had any real idea if their ideas would do the remotest good. A Democrat in the White House generating astonishing amounts of unpopularity, for apparently unreasonable reasons when there are plenty of good reasons to be critical of him. And massive dust storms striking our cities.

  1. And the Giants winning the World Series 4-1 over a team that had called Washington, DC home. They were real men in those days, so Carl Hubbell won games 1 and 4 (11 innings on two days’ rest), rather than 1 and 5 like Lincecum.
