  1. May the only reason your day isn’t boring be the intense delight you feel in your child’s presence.

  2. A playlist of songs to sing for your baby:

Punk Rock Girl by The Dead Milkmen.

Nope. That’s it. That’s the entire playlist. She can get variety when she’s older.

      • There are some great kids’ songs out there.

Apeman and Tin Soldier Man by the Kinks.
All Together Now and Yellow Submarine by the Beatles.
Any Major Dude by Steely Dan
        Daughter by Loudon Wainwright
Pictures of Lily and Mary Anne with the Shaky Hands by The Who (until she’s old enough to figure out what they’re about)
        Teach Your Children by CS&N
59th Street Bridge Song by Simon and Garfunkel

  3. Do you have a baby swing? In my experience, that keeps the happy and entertained for hours, and even better helps them go to sleep when they need that

    • The baby swing is the thing I didn’t know that I needed. Without a doubt. My parents had one when we went down, and what we saw had us on Craigslist immediately upon our return.

      • they are indeed the business at that age.

and depending on how kinetic the wee one ends up being, the bouncy seats are a good choice too.

        • Seconded on the bouncy seats (and swing, but you already knew that). They are easily portable, and you can put one at your feet under yr desk while typing, using yr foot to bounce, and tailoring the tempo as needed. It can really knock ’em out when nothing else will. Our second actually did a *lot* of sleeping, many many nights, in the bouncy chair (having her head elevated really helped, especially if she had a cold, and the contoured shape of the seat just makes ’em feel cradled & safe I think).
